Please don't call it Pixie Dust

  • May. 1st, 2008 at 8:36 AM

I was watching BBC World News last night and they had an article about a powder that can grow back skin, bone, muscle and cartilage. It hasn't hit clinical trials yet but it looks very promising. Here is the article with a few video excerpts: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7354458.stm

I want to watch Fulham play Birmingham and its not on Fox Sports TV so I am spending 15 bucks for one month of service. I am hoping Fulham escapes relegation. This is there final stand. If they can beat Birmingham relegation is assured.

I tried to pick up the paper and pencil again to  draw but in the end I had to put it down because it frustrated me. I have never been a good artist and it has plagued me since I was a kid. I would have liked to have been an artist but I never felt I had the skill to make it a career so I decided to pursue something I was good at programming and use the money I made to attend art classes, etc. Forward close to 20 years, I am still very weak at drawing and the ongoing frustration makes me wonder if I should just give up. I haven't taken any classes due to the fact that I am either working or very tired(damn you MS!).
I have called several artistic schools to try to get into an art program. I don't think an online art school will do me any good b/c I need some encouragement when it comes to drawing. I too often lately just give up so unsatisfied with what I drew or was trying to draw.

Edit Aside: Ok. Those ads are annoying(well worth the 20 bucks to remove them). Too distracting when I type and I did not like them hovering at the top of my page either.

As Richard Pryor said "MS stands for More Shit". I am dragging right now. My head is in the clouds and I can't focus to save my life. The good news, I just found out I will be an uncle.  Maybe that news will keep me positive and alive. At the moment though I feel dead and its aggravating.
I can't seem to get out the house to do anything. Its either my energy level or my apathy.

My brother Ryan sent me a link yesterday to Marvel Vs. Online for the PC.  I tried out the game and its somewhere between Magic and Yu-gi-oh in terms of fun factor.

I forgot I bought the DS version of this game so I thought to try it out.   I was turned off almost immediately.

First of all it completely touch based so using the D-pad or the buttons are out of the question. Second, you have to tilt the bloody handheld sideways like you do when you play Brain Age. In short, total suckage.

Super Bowl

  • Jan. 21st, 2008 at 7:31 AM

Its all East affair and one that I won't be watching. I was hoping that Green Bay would have made it to the Super Bowl but alas the Giants pulled it out the victory.

Interesting science article

10 fold life expectancy in yeast. The scientists say that it can be applied to humans. If it were applied to humans it would have huge social consequences(link: http://www.livescience.com/health/080114-life-extension.html)

Apple Air : The Mr. Glass of notebooks

  • Jan. 16th, 2008 at 7:50 AM

Steve Jobs had his semi-annual product announcement for Apple yesterday. It was largely underwhelming. The new product was an ultra thin laptop that is super lightweight and thin. This thing looks like it be destroyed very easily like from a 3 ft+ drop.

Barely Sentient

  • Jan. 13th, 2008 at 7:00 PM

Day 3 of being barely sentient. My energy level is close to empty. I have got work to tomorrow so I hope some energy comes to me for the week. The grind is getting old. I have got some remaining side work to do as well.

As far as anything creative that has been limited. It either been a lack of energy or mood. Lately it has been mood. Hopefully soon, i will break the creative slump. If not I will do something about it in the coming months.

Toon Hand Finished

  • Jan. 6th, 2008 at 9:15 PM

Today was a relatively good day. I had a decent amount of energy so I put it to good use. I managed to do some household chores(dishes and laundry). I watched a bit of football(both kinds) and did some creative stuff as well. I am working on a digital character that I will reveal soon but the character's hand I worked on today.

Getting the topology right on a poly hand is definitely difficult but in the latest 3D world magazine they showed a good approach. The hand was done in Maya and they included the source files. I have a PLE version of Maya so I used it  as a resource while I broke the mesh down.

I recreated the hand using my all-time favorite modeler, Modo(screenshot below). Its not perfect but its one of the best hands that have modeled in a while.

Another great anime has ended. I just watched the last episode on crunchyroll.com. I plan on buying this one when it comes out in the states.

Argh!

  • Jan. 2nd, 2008 at 8:48 PM

I just can't get a cartoon nose right. I have tried to get it exactly the way I envision it but its just not coming out the way I want it to. Damn you sculpting tools(Modo and Zbrush). You should read my mind!

New Year's eve post

  • Dec. 31st, 2007 at 9:11 PM

Well, I am doing relatively well health and moodwise entering into the New Year. I was supposed to go to a party tonight but I think I am going to rest up to prepare for work on Wednesday.

I got a new bed for Christmas and so far so good. I am finding it easier to fall asleep which is really good. Hopefully this will help mitigate my fatigue. Anyhoo, to all ya'll Happy New Year!

Christmas Eve's slight madness

  • Dec. 24th, 2007 at 8:41 PM

I have  the help desk phone over the christmas holidays. So far it has not been bad, but just about an hour ago I got three phone calls in a row from different hospitals just as I was putting on Sassy's harness. Needless to say, she was not pleased(Photographic evidence below)

I was finally able to take her out 20 minutes afterwards. I think I will get a new camera based on the image above as the flash is WAY too bright.

Yatta! Tractor Animation close to done

  • Nov. 24th, 2007 at 6:14 PM

I can see the finishline. My side work is almost done.

I have been doing some sidework for a organics company. They asked me to do an animation of a tractor. At first, I did it in 2D but my drawing skills are subpar at best. Midway through the process I decided to go the 3D route and it has had much better results.

I am looking forward to seeing this one through. I have numerous other projects I would like to work on and having one less project helps.
